When the keyless remote to your car dies…..

====================

I was out shopping at the Target in Clairemont Mesa off of Balboa a couple of weeks ago, and when I came to my car with my hands full of bags, the trunk would not open, no matter how many times I hit the remote. Frustrating!!

After I put everything in, and sat in my car, I tried all the other buttons – still nothing. I figured it was the battery, and went to 3 stores to find the oh so rare battery.  You know the kind, small round, flat battery – looks like a quarter?  I replaced it, and broke a nail doing so.  Yeah it was one of those days……  And much to my dismay, it still wouldnt work!  Argh…..  My keyless remote was dead!

I called the local dealer, not knowing really where else to call for such an item.  I drive an Infiniti G35 and they quoted me…..drum roll please….. $250!  Yup, $250 for a new keyless entry, that they would also program for me at no extra charge.  Awww how sweet, so for $250 you would program it for me, too??  You are kidding right?

So I went to G35Driver.com, an awesome forum I found earlier this year (thanks to my sister Lida (xoxo)) when I had issues with my A/C and Radio.  There I read about this nifty little seller on Ebay – Midwest Keyless Inc. They sell the same exact item the dealer quoted me, for $250, for just under $50!!!  Yeah, $50.  And now that I am looking at it, it is better than the replacement I wanted.  This one has retractable key (which I do have to get cut).   Awesomeness!

So I received the key (early) and was about to go back to G35Driver.com to read up on how to program it.  I didnt have to do that. Along with the package was a website that gives you programming instructions on almost all keyless entry remotes. Program Your Remote.  If your remote is on the fritz, you can try to reprogram it using their instructions.

In less than 5 minutes of opening the package, I was in my car reprogramming the keyless remote.  Viola, my new keyless remote works perfectly, and for a fraction of the cost!!

Knowledge is money.  Hope you can save some with this…..

San Diego Foreclosures – Google Maps – Red Dots…..

============================

Google Maps now gives you a very interesting look at our city of San Diego.  Take a look below:

Foreclosures on Google Maps 12 20 2010

Each red dot represents a home that falls under the big umbrella of “Foreclosure”.  Either the home was foreclosed on – meaning the bank is now the owner of the home – or the home is in Pre Foreclosure meaning the homeowner has missed enough payments that the bank has filed a legal notice titled the Notice of Default and may soon be Foreclosed on.

I dont think it represents every home foreclosed on, which I will explain more below, but it does represent homes that are available For Sale on the market right now.  The homes that are Foreclosed on are Bank Owned – aka REO – and the ones are in Pre Foreclosure are probably (but not always) a Short Sale.

Why do I say that not every Foreclosure (aka Bank Owned REO) on is there? Because there is the shadow inventory – homes that have been foreclosed on that the banks have not put back on the market for sale.  There are various theories behind why the banks have not put the homes on the market and even more theories on the number of homes in the Shadow Inventory.

This mapping is causing a big buzz in the real estate industry.  What do you think?

My New Google Chrome Laptop

So I was one of the first groups of people selected by Google to test out their new laptop w/ their Chrome operating system (ChromeOS).   Today is the second day, and thought I should share an update.

Likes: (ok its free, so I LOVE that)

1) Speed.  It moves fast inside the browser.  Turns off and turns on quickly.  I can scroll webpages up and down, left and right easily using the keyboard arrow keys, or by touching the bottom left corner of the mouse pad and using my other finger to move around.  Easy to open up a new tab, just hit the cap locks key (which is no longer a cap locks key).

2) I like Chrome, have been using it for almost a year. So more Chrome

Dislikes:

1)Cant control the settings for the mouse, or if I connect an external monitor or mouse/keyboard.  It has one output to video cable and one usb input, so I am using them both.  They worked right away, not drivers to install.  But again, no control over the settings.

2)Cant use my desktop software like Tweetdeck, so now I use HootSuite.  I know the point is to be up in the cloud, which means to run all your programs through the web, but I miss the versatility of some of the desktop programs. But we shall see how I do w/ this.

Final Note:

I have a high speed connection to the internet at work and at home, so I have yet to test out the 3G speed (which I get 100MB of data per month free w/ the computer for the next 2 years – through Verizon).
